This is a word that our editors have determined is not a Canadianism.

The preferred term in the UK (see Chart 1), blue bin has some currency in Canadian English. However, Canadian internet data and newspaper sources show that blue box is strongly favoured (see blue box).

Wet waste like kitchen refuse and grass clippings will go into a green bin. Dry waste - paper, glass, cans, plastic - will go into a blue bin.
